The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has arrested a hacker who created and administered a powerful botnot - an automated network of more than 100,000 fake accounts.

The hacker, a resident of Ivano-Frankivsk, used the botnets to launch DDoS attacks, spam campaigns, detect vulnerabilities in websites, and brute-force users’ email passwords.

The hacker found customers for his services on closed forums and in Telegram chats, and received payments from “customers” through electronic payment systems banned in Ukraine, like WebMoney.

Back in 2018 the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine imposed sanctions on the firm, and unfortunately for the hacker, he had registered his real address with WebMoney - allowing SSU officers to find him.

The hacker is currently facing charges under Part 2 of Article 361-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (creation for the purpose of use, distribution or sale of malicious software or hardware, as well as distribution or sale of malicious software or hardware, as well as their distribution or sale).

Officers are currently looking through the equipment seized to find out more information.
