Grosvenor House, London was the host of the Women in GRC Forum and Awards on April 27th, 2023, bringing together over 300 attendees to celebrate and recognise the contributions of women in the Governance, Risk, and Compliance industry.

Throughout the day, the forum featured panel discussions with over 30 speakers exploring key themes for women in the industry, including Leadership, Inclusivity, and Attraction and Retention. 

Following the forum, the Women in GRC Awards took place, recognising 16 winners across 16 award categories from more than 130 individuals, teams, and organisations shortlisted for consideration. The night celebrated the contributions of women and was attended by over 250 guests. 

A panel of distinguished judges, including previous winners and those leading change within the industry, evaluated attendees from around the world, learning about their stories and the efforts they have undertaken to improve the industry.

Founded in 2021 by Nicola Dowdall, the Women in GRC Awards have the purpose of recognising, celebrating, commending, and giving a platform to women who are making remarkable contributions and driving transformative change within the industry. 

Before the awards commenced, attendees gave standing ovations and cheers to recognise and celebrate everyone present in the room. In her opening speech, Nicola Dowdall stated that there is still work to be done to ensure that women have equal opportunities and representation in leadership and board positions. 

She emphasised the need for more efforts to eliminate gender bias and promote diversity and inclusion, critical to building a more equitable and effective GRC profession for everyone.

Nicola then handed the microphone to the 2021 Women of The Year Winner, Adela Szakola. 

Adela shared her story and struggles within her journey and expressed her growing interest in organisational behaviour and architecture, stating that having the “right people in the right place at the right time” are essential to all good management decisions and execution strategies.

Following a drinks reception, speeches, and dinner, the awards ceremony began.

  • GRC Rising Star of the Year  - Laura Morgans

The final award of the evening saw Nazia Shaheen named Woman of the Year, celebrating her achievements and efforts in making changes within the industry.
