LL.M., Legal Counsel, Klarna
Sebnem is a tech lawyer currently working as a legal counsel at Klarna Bank in Stockholm, Sweden. She counsels Klarna’s decisioning, banking and servicing infrastructure teams on financial regulations and data protection compliance. She negotiates agreements with credit scoring and identification bureaus, partner banks, card issuers, acquirers and processors. Sebnem’s professional focus is at the intersection of law, technology and policy. In addition to her LL.M. degree from Lund University, she is a trained negotiator (London School of Economics), and an ISO 27001 implementer. She is specialised in EU law, Payment Services (PSD2), Trust Services (eIDAS) and Data Protection (GDPR) with a strong understanding of online, software and engineering fields. Previous to Klarna Bank, she worked as a legal counsel at Scrive AB, an EU Trust Service provider. She counselled engineering, product and sales teams on the legal aspects of electronic signature, electronic contract and electronic ID technologies in compliance with EU eIDAS Regulation. Since April 2022, Sebnem has begun giving guest lectures at Lund University’s business law and human rights law programmes. Earlier in her career, Sebnem co-founded a litigation NGO in London, UK and ran strategic litigation, advocacy and fund-raising projects for several years. In 2014, Sebnem did an internship at the United Nation OHCHR in Geneva, Switzerland.
