Joel Schwarz is an experienced consultant and attorney with MBL Technologies where serves as a Director, as well as MBL’s Data Protection and Privacy Capability Lead, spe-cializing in privacy, data protection, data ethics, cyberse-curity, cyber intelligence and compliance oversight. Joel is also an Adjunct Professor at Albany Law School, where he develops and teaches Masters-level courses on cyber-crime, cybersecurity and privacy.

Previously Joel was an intelligence community privacy of-ficer, and a cyber prosecutor with the Justice Department and the New York State Attorney General’s office. He’s a certified information privacy professional (CIPP) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), and a Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE) by ISACA.

Joel frequently speaks and writes on privacy, data protec-tion, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies matters, and has published in a range of journals and online fora, to include The Hill, Bloomberg, Education Week, the In-ternational Association of Privacy Professionals’ Privacy Advisor, etc. (see https://cyberprivacyconsultant.com/press/)

Prior to MBL, Joel was Managing Partner for The Schwarz Group LLC, and before that, Senior Director, Global Inter-net Enforcement & Data Analytics for BSA | The Software Alliance.

Mr. Schwarz also spent over a dozen years in the federal government, to include serving as the Civil Liberties & Pri-vacy Officer for the National Counterterrorism Center, an office that he stood up and led, as well as an Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section. Earlier in his career, Joel was Special Counsel for Internet Matters for the Securities Bu-reau of the New York State Attorney General’s Office and Assistant Attorney General for the Internet Bureau.
