Director Business Operations, Control Risks

Nicola Willison is the Director, Business Operations in the Confidential Crisis Response practice. She joined Control Risks and the Response practice in 2012. In her current role she manages the special risks relationship between Control Risks and Hiscox, their brokers and our joint clients. She also continues to oversee the Special Risks Analysis team, which tracks kidnapping-for-ransom and other extortive crime trends globally. Nicola is also a leader of Control Risks’ Women’s Network in the EMEA region and sits on the EMEA DE&I committee, working to promote equal opportunities in a dynamic, rewarding and innovative environment.

Recent tasks that Nicola has worked on include:

  • Presenting at a conference for multiple Dutch organisations on the current threat and threat extortion landscape in Europe.
  • Designing several eLearning courses to educate the workforce on the kidnap and extortive crime threat and how to mitigate the risk. Courses include Virtual kidnap eLearning and Security and Prevention in Latin America.

Nicola has been an expert in kidnapping and extortion trends for several years, previously serving on the Special Risks Analysis team as an Analyst and Senior Analyst and then leading the team for several years. Prior to joining Control Risks, Nicola worked as an analyst for the UK government. Nicola has a BA Joint Honours degree in French and German from the University of Kent and has lived in Germany and Switzerland.
