Sustainability Director, Perkins&Will

Asif is Sustainability Director at Perkins&Will. He has raised the profile of carbon proficiency in the practice which includes a costed Zero Carbon Report at the end of concept design for all projects. He has also been involved in expanding the sustainability remit within designs as part of the ‘Living Design’ initiative. He is an Architect with over 20 years’ experience in delivering Zero Carbon design projects. Notably BedZED and Jubilee Wharf in Penryn, Cornwall. He has worked in the UK and abroad in China and the Middle East. He has a PhD in Life Cycle design of buildings from Cass School of Art and Design at LMU.

Asif has created an environment in which stakeholder participation has been key in making sure that clients can see the financial and reputational value of pursuing such an agenda to create a more fair outcome for the users of buildings and the environment around them. Similarly he has worked hard in demonstrating to designers the amount of advocacy they have within the process showing the impact they can make as professionals. This has included a drive towards innovation so that collective learning can take place to create designs that are good neighbours for all the people they impact. By taking a regenerative handprint approach has reversed traditional environmental design thinking in a race to zero.
