Information Governance Lead, The European Institute For Innovation Through Health Data
I am an experienced international information security and governance consultant and software engineer working in the health, innovation and research industries. I have taken lead roles across several sectors including public, third, industrial and not-for-profit across Europe. As a Professional Member of the British Computer Society with a PhD in Medical Informatics from UCL, I have over 20 years’ experience in these fields.
I have focused my work on operational security and design implementation and hold an interest in understanding the legal, ethical and societal impacts and concerns around novel health data uses, particularly in the area of Artificial Intelligence for health management and genomics research.
In my recent career I held the position of Trusted Research Programme lead for Cancer Research UK and the Information Governance Lead for the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust NIHR Biomedical Research Centre Clinical Research Informatics Unit. I conducted my research in the area of Information Governance and Security as a Senior Research Fellow at UCL where my research and teaching focused on understanding legal, ethical and security requirements for Big Data and Omics driven clinical research.
I focus on understanding evolving regulations and ensuring they are implemented so that they enhance innovation, discovery and impact to improve health and social outcomes. My career has explored the balance between enhancing outcomes through data driven innovation and ethical, equitable and transparent practices. This drives my work in regulatory compliance and accountability.
